About this section on assistive technologies

This section of the toolkit focuses on Assistive Technologies. We will look in more depth at what the term Assistive Technologies means – for now a quick definition is equipment or systems that maintain or improve the functional capabilities of those with disabilities. The section has four parts. In the first part we will explore why Assistive Technologies are important and what benefit they can bring for people with different disabilities. In the second part we will look in more depth at the definitions of Assistive Technologies and provide an explanation of what these different technologies can do. In the third part we look at how to select particular technologies to respond to needs. This is followed by part four where we provide examples of different Assistive Technologies and the final part looking at where you can find further help.
